Fifty-five years of impactful ecological science

Room/Stage: Hall D
Focus:
Sustainability

Matt’s presentation will provide background of whole-ecosystem experimentation: how what it is, what we learn from it, and how it has led to new innovation for the environment. The presentation will trace some of the innovative research that has been done to address complex ecological problems and how solutions were pinpointed. The presentation will then consider some new and emerging challenges, and the approaches that are being taken to address them.

Keynote: Scaling Nanomanufacturing to Tackle Global Challenges

Scaling Nanomanufacturing to Tackle Global Challenges

Room/Stage: Hall D
Focus:
Sustainability

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is the most precise method for depositing nanoscale thin films, as it deposits one atomic layer of a material at a time. However, the need for a vacuum chamber constrains the scalability of this technique. A scalable, high-throughput, open-air version of ALD, known as atmospheric-pressure spatial ALD (AP-SALD) will be introduced in this talk. Dr. Musselman’s group and spinoff company, Nfinite Nanotechnology, are using the AP-SALD method to tackle global challenges, including the development of antimicrobial coatings and stable, low-cost perovskite solar cells, the detection of environmentally damaging gases, and the production of superior compostable and recyclable packaging materials.

Keynote: Status and Prospects of Korean Nanotechnology Industry

Status and Prospects of Korean Nanotechnology Industry

Room/Stage: Hall D
Focus:
Sustainability

Korea began fostering national-level nanotechnology in early 2000 and has invested about $78 billion over the past 20 years to build national nanotechnology infrastructure and platforms and promote nanotechnology research and development. As a result, it is striving to secure the world's fourth-largest nanoscience and technology competitiveness in future new industries such as next-generation semiconductors, future cars, and 5G by applying nanotechnology to electronic industries such as semiconductors and displays. In this session, it will be a valuable opportunity to look at the current status of Korea's nanotechnology industry and share the future that Korea wants to achieve with nanotechnology and the vision and strategy of the national nanotechnology industry.

Room/Stage: Hall D
Focus:
Sustainability

It is difficult to focus on the future when there are so many global issues related to sustainability: food security, ever increasing energy needs, and access to clean water. Are we running out of time and what do we need to do now and in the future? How do we deploy the most creative minds on such critical issues?
