Advancing Disruptive technologies and ecosystem innovation for Biomanufacturing resilience in Canada

The COVID-19 pandemic imposed unprecedented health and societal challenges and yet inspired a rapid and global response, coordinated across sectors and sometimes among nations, culminating in the expedient arrival of life-saving vaccines and therapeutics. Looking forward, there is a need to bolster multi-disciplinary innovation for various design elements that can de-risk the manufacturing process, and ensure robust and rapid population scale manufacturing for multiple product types. Turn-key plug and play rapid production platforms that apply synthetic biology, nanoscale-innovation for product selection and microfluidic and senor-based analytics and digitalization can accelerate the development of precision biologics. Canada leads in the discovery and development of such disruptive technologies. Investments in robust infrastructure for in-house manufacturing of myriad of products can establish Canada’s leadership in Biomanufacturing science and its application ensuring future reliance to tackle health care needs.
